Estonian technology stories
In: Companies
30 Oct 2008A month ago I posted a story about an Estonian 3D modelling technology company. But there’s another great engineering company walking similar path – it’s called MEC.
MEC does more than just 3D models and stuff. Through 3D and special software they are assessing the strenght of different structures, for example cruise ships, ramps, helicopter decks etc.
Managing Director of the company, Meelis Mäesalu claims that MEC can solve different problems, including linear stress-strain analysis of large structural components, fluid-structure interaction, ultimate strength and crashworthiness of ship structures, 3D modelling and –design, seismic analysis, you name it. He is talking about creating and analyzing different kind of virtual prototypes to get the best technical solution.
But what it really means is having interesting projects to work on. Some examples: engineering a cruise vessel for Lake Peipsi (project pictured) in Estonia, testing how quakeproof is a must-be-quakeproof sandwitch-type-of house, assessing the strenght of metallic liquid gas fields, engineering a helicopter deck for oil-drilling platform etc.
Mäesalu says that MEC is participating in EU science project IMPROVE, aimed at optimizing the development of ship-prototyping. The company also have partnerships going on with technical universities in Tallinn and Helsinki.
