Vladimir and Maksim Loginov – two Estonian brothers (pictured) fire up their inspiration by creating and selling the hand-made text fonts.
Believe it or not, but their company HandMadeFont has even text types made of caviar, toaster-bread, Lego bricks, hair, cheese, pancakes, cigarette smoke, clouds etc in its 130-types collection.
Every object is a possible font, although every object can’t be of an easy mark for that.
What the Loginov’s want to do next is using animals and humans for making fonts.
“Naked women perhaps,” Vladimir jokes. “Yet the models are costly!”
The Loginov’s favoutite font is the one knitted by their mother. Amazingly it took only two days for her to finish the whole alphabet.
“We wanted to do something interesting and creative, where we actually have to think while working and do handcraft,” says Maksim. However, for the brothers it is not their job, but a hobby, since they spent most of their time designing ads for Age McCann Estonia.
Where they get their inspiration from? Everywhere – from smart people, contemporary arts, movies, books etc. Their heads are full of ideas. “You never know where a good idea hits you!” Maksim knows.
HandMadeFont is a pretty good business as well. Ten freely chosen fonts from the collection cost 250 euros. The whole collection of 130 different types costs 780 euros and the boys have sold a few already. One collection was aquired by Age McCann Spain.
Loginov’s have also done business with The Oprah Magazine and different publishing houses, like for example Thames & Hudson, Penquin and Esquire.
The latest edition of Computer Arts - the designers “bible” – published a four pages story about the HandMadeFont. They have been talked about in Brazil and China.
Here’s a video, where Vladimir, Maksim and Vladimir’s wife Tanja demonstrate, how they made the toaster-bread font and talk what are they dreaming about.
One of their passions is to work on exclusive tailored tasks. Famouse magazines like The Oprah are willing pay fortune for the exclusive headline fonts. Sometimes even more than the price Loginov’s are selling their whole collection at.
