Estonian GPS solutions provider Track24.eu will take a step towards total truck fleet management by adding two way communication to its GPS terminal solution.
There are numerous ways how modern technology can help logistics, road construction and other companies dealing with cars, trucks and heavy machinery. Track24.eu is one of the leading Estonian GPS solution providers. We talked to Kalmer Kärblane, the sales director of track24.eu about fleet management and their solutions.
Makes everything easier
It is actually quite surprising how big a difference a GPS solution can make in running for example a logistics company. Traditionally you would have excel spreadsheets with information about when you should bring the truck to maintenance, you would have to call the driver to know where he is and if he could pick up another load and when, your bus and tractor drivers would usually not switch of the engine while the machine is standing. You might even have expensive machinery standing for days because due to lack of information it is impossible to optimize the routes and logistics. So it takes a lot of effort and harsh procedures to run a logistics company effectively without the GPS system.
The GPS services are a big help. The goal of Track24 is to provide total fleet management. So that in one IT system there is online picture of all the cars, all the drivers and all the cargo. There are numerous benefits in it for the company – of which optimizing costs is the biggest. The boring and un-popular work of checking whether the truck must go to maintenance or whether someone has stolen diesel are handled automatically.
Let the big brother watch over
You might think that these GPS systems are unpopular amongst drivers because they might think that now big brother is watching over their shoulder all the time, but on the contrary. Honest drivers like the systems for numerous reasons. Firstly, these systems provide hard evidence if the customer accuses of his cargo not being delivered. The systems also provide additional security for the driver and lastly you notice right away if there is diesel missing from the tank.
Until now most of the GPS services have provided one way communication from the truck to the logistic. The benefit of two way communication is that the logistic can send requests to the drivers who in turn can answer if they can pick up the cargo or not. Today such requests are handled by calling the drivers, which creates a lot of hassle if you have to call for example the 5 closest drivers and agree on who should pick up the cargo.
Estonian GPS service marketplace
One of the obstacles of GPS solutions becoming popular has been the problems of delivery of the first service providers. The whole industry started up with a lot of enthusiasm a few years ago, but unfortunately the promises and the reality differed in the first offerings. Now however the situation has changed significantly. The offerings have good quality and there are years of experience. So if you are running a company with many cars or trucks and don’t yet have a GPS solution then…. you better consider one! You might save tens of percents on your annual costs.
